It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Blackhawks Life Member and Legend of the club Noel Derrick.
Noel’s hockey resume reads like no other in that he was a Squaw Valley Olympian, State Representative winning the Goodall cup 10 times, Foundation player and 6 time Blackhawk Premiership player, Club captain and coach, Life member of not only the Blackhawks but also IHV and IHA. Noel also played in two Australian Club Championship teams with the club, won the IHV President’s Medal and was also honoured with one of IHA’s most prestigious awards – the S M Hudson Trophy.
Our club’s Premier A Highest Points Scorer trophy carries Noel’s name and perpetuates his service and contribution to the club.
Having played 425 club games when he hung up his skates, Noel is still in the top 20 of IHV games played.
The Blackhawks Ice Hockey Club extends its condolences to Noel’s family and close friends.
For those that were entertained by Noel at our club’s 60th anniversary in 2007, remember the humour and depth of character of the man that contributed so much to our sport over an extended period.
Personally, having been lucky enough to know Noel and watch him play, I will remember the smooth skating, skilled number 6 and his enjoyment of being a Blackhawk.
